Expression 2: Committed to Family

“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.”
- Ephesians 2:19

This verse shows us that we haven’t been made members of a club or an organisation - but that we are members of a household - in other words, we are a family! Being a member of this church means that you are committed to cultivating a family atmosphere. Here are four ways this outworks itself:

Proactive in celebrating and developing the family of God.

We don’t want to just say that we’re family, but in reality we’re just a group of strangers that pass each other by. If we see someone on their own, we go out of our way to encourage, welcome, love and serve. We invite people into our homes, and we accept invitations from others. We create space in our lives to invest in our relationships with one another.

1. We champion grace

Our family is built on the foundation of grace - that we have a God that has given us what we don’t deserve. We want to celebrate and enjoy the grace of God in our own lives, and help draw one another into the mercies and love of God. And out of the overflow of God’s grace to us, we would be gracious to one another, think the best of one another, and bring the best out of one another.

2. Practise hospitality

Biblically, we see clearly that we are called to open our homes and lives to one another. Hospitality isn’t about entertaining, it’s about enjoying and drawing people into our lives. This includes the highs and lows of life, consistently walking with one another, praying for each other and loving each other as Christ has loved us.

3. Invested in Small Group

Small groups are the place where we can form deep relationships that are Christ-centered, encouraging and spurring one another on into the things of God. They are the place where we can ensure everyone in our church is known, loved and care for.
