Expression 5: Committed to Mission

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:18-20

Part of being a follower of Jesus is sharing the good news that we have received with the world around us. One of the last things Jesus said to his followers before ascending into heaven was to go and make disciples. So often, speaking of mission and evangelism can make people feel heavy or pressured, but when you read the Bible we see that the early church spoke about Jesus as a natural overflow of love for Him.

To help us live in a way that shares Jesus with those around us, we use the 8 S’s that make up our Invited culture:

Smile

This is so simple but can be so effective – intentionally choosing to smile at those we come across, whether that be neighbours or strangers, can bring the peace of God into a situation.

Socialise

When you read the gospels, so often Jesus was either at a meal, just coming from a meal or going to a meal with others. Eating food together is a great way to build relationships.

Serve

We would go out of our way to care for, support and encourage those that don’t know Christ, demonstrating the heart of our God, revealed in the servant King Jesus Christ.

Share your story

We all have a story to tell of how we became believers and of what God is doing in our lives right now.

Share his story

We can point people to the Bible and share the amazing story of the almighty creator God who loves and cares so deeply about us, and what He did to rescue us from sin.

Supernatural

We would believe that God is able to intervene and move in supernatural ways, and so we would pray for the sick.

Steppingstones

Creating moments and opportunities to invite people along to that’s part of normal life, as well as inviting people to steppingstone events hosted by the church.

Sundays

Sharing an invite to come along to a Sunday service, believing that seeing the church love God and one another would be a witness to them.
