Draw Near to God to Hear His Whisper
At small group a few weeks back, we were asked an interesting question for our check-in. We were asked, If someone was watching the movie of your life right now, what would they be yelling at the screen? I found this to be a hugely thought-provoking question. In the season that I was in at that point, I knew they’d be yelling, “Carrie, just take a break!!” (I actually fell ill the next day and had to listen to my own advice and spent 3 days in bed!). If someone was watching the movie of your life, what would they be yelling? This question made me reflect on what God is yelling at the screen as He watches my life unfold. Thankfully as believers, we know that God is a good shepherd and He isn’t so much yelling at the screen from afar but whispering words of love and encouragement as we draw close to Him. Through this exercise, He allowed me to draw close and hear him whisper, My daughter, you need to rest, you need to slow down and accept help.
I wonder what you might hear if you draw close to Him today.
As Christmas approaches, I find myself feeling panicky about all that needs doing in the lead up and all that I must remember. I need to keep drawing near to God to hear Him whisper that the most important thing that I need to remember today is that He is with me. In this Christmas season we get to celebrate that Jesus came and made His home among us (John1v14). Ephesians 2v13 reminds us that: “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us. Let’s be those who draw close to Him and listen to His voice today. As you spend time with friends and family and reflect over the past year and look to the coming year, take time to reflect on what words of love and encouragement God may be whispering to you and to those around you through you.
