Week of Prayer | 7th April → 14th September
Seek the Lord
We will be considering Psalm 27 during our week of prayer, where there is an invitation for the whole church to seek God and there is a personal response.
In verse 8 it says the following:
You have said, ‘Seek my face’. My heart says to you, ‘Your face Lord do I seek’.
Whole church invitation:
When it says ‘seek my face’, the Hebrew word for seek is actually a command that is addressed to more than one person. It can be easy to slip into thinking that God is only interested in the outwardly impressive and flawless Christian’s. However, the wording of this verse reminds us that God doesn’t want just a select few to be seeking Him, he wants his whole church to draw near to him, to enjoys his closeness and rest in his steadfast love. This is the God who goes after the one lost sheep (Luke 15:1-7) in order to bring them back to the fold.
Wherever you are at with your walk with God, he is inviting all of us this prayer week to closeness and intimacy with him.
Personal response:
My heart says to you, ‘Your face Lord do I seek’.
There is a personal response to God’s invitation to us as a church. Let’s ensure that our hearts are responsive to God’s call. Let’s respond to him with our whole heart and seek him this prayer week. As that lost sheep enjoys being close to the shepherd, let’s draw near to him with everything that is within us.
There will be opportunities this week for us to gather as a whole church to seek God, but also opportunities for us to pursue him individually.
A Week of Prayer is also a great opportunity to consider the practice of fasting. If you’ve never fasted before or would like to delve deeper into the topic, we’ve gathered some resources to help you:
