Who we are

Young people today don’t know what to be. A Chav? A Goth? A poser? A rocker? A punk or Emo? Youth culture today can be summarised in one sentence, ‘standing out in order to fit in.’

At first that doesn't seem to make sense. How can you stand out and fit in? But that’s exactly what young people want. They want to be themselves, be different and stand out but they also want to belong, to fit in, to be part of something.

At Counter Culture Youth we encourage young people to stand out and fit in. We want to see a generation of young people, who as our name states are truly ‘counter culture’, having different views from the world around them, not bowing to the pressures of social influence but holding on to the truth of God’s word and living lives that set them apart for the kingdom of God and for Jesus Christ.

But we also offer them a place to belong; a community that welcomes and loves them for who they are, that celebrates diversity, that supports them through their struggles, that encourages them in their giftings and abilities, and that challenges them into daily dependence upon God and a deeper understanding of the ‘unsearchable riches of Christ.’ (Eph 3.8)

What we do:

  • CCY Youth Cell

As a Church we meet in small groups during the week to help us build community, and the Youth is no exception! CCY Cell is a great time to socialize, worship, apply God’s word to our lives and pray for another.

  • CCY Sunday

On Sundays throughout term-time, we have a time of teaching especially aimed at young people. Whilst we are all in together for the time of worship at the start of our morning meeting, the Youth are invited out during the preach for some more accessible teaching.

  • Newday

An annual week away for Church-based youth groups, drawing over 6000 people from the Newfrontiers family of churches nationwide. There will be great teaching and worship, and opportunities to get out on the streets in community action work... and of course, lots of time just to relax and enjoy time together with other people of the same age group. Next year it will be held in Norfolk from 11 – 16 August 2010.
