International Students

Welcome! Bienvenue! Willkommen! Karibu!

Whether you are from just over the sea in Europe or from more distant shores, we are delighted to have you here with us at The City Church. We see students and families come from many different countries, and we want to help you feel at home here in our church and city. It may be that you think of your home church every Sunday and miss your family; we would love to welcome you into our church! Or you may be new to church and just want to find out what it is all about; we would love to help you discover who Jesus is and why He is good news for you too.

We have several ways for you to get involved in The City Church and to help you settle in Canterbury.

There are two international cafés in Canterbury which provide a social space every week for you to meet new people, share each other’s cultures (especially foods!) and if you would like, to explore Christianity through looking at Jesus’ life in Bible discussions.

Global Café

On Saturday evenings during term time, from 7:30 pm in the Oasis Café at St Andrew’s Church (on Watling Street behind Tesco supermarket). There are fun activities and free refreshments each week with events such as music and dancing nights, table tennis and pool tournaments as well as cultural nights and the opportunity to practice your English if you are a language student!

Café on a Hill

Especially for international students at the University of Kent. As nearly a quarter of Kent’s students are international, the café is a great way to meet other people who know what it is like to be new to the UK, share each other’s cultures in themed events and enjoy fun, free evenings on campus. Café on a Hill is held from 7:30 pm in the Stanley Rogers room in Rutherford College. There are directions to the room from Rutherford reception. Please find us on Facebook and say hello! The page is called ‘Cafe on a Hill’.
