What is the Ministry?
It’s called Deaflinks – making links between Jesus, his church and deaf people.
What is the vision of the ministry?
To reach into the local and wider Deaf Community with Jesus’ love and his good news of salvation, hope and freedom. To become ‘deaf-friendly’ people who reflect Jesus. To grow in awareness of how to do these things through the gifting and enabling of the Holy Spirit.
What does it look like on a week to week basis?
At the moment, we’re meeting informally in homes on Wednesday evenings from 7-8.30pm for signing sessions in six week ‘batches’ followed by a couple of weeks’ break.
What would be involved in serving in this area?
• Informal ‘learning to sign’ sessions - signs for worship/conversation/building communication bridges
• Asking God for growing deaf awareness personally and corporately and praying into the ministry
• Taking opportunities as they come up as a group and as individuals to link with the deaf community, such as going to a deaf pub and holding mixed hearing /deaf social events such as bowling etc
• Signing worship songs in church
• Moving towards specifically deaf-focussed activities in a church context
What sort of person are you looking for?
Someone who’s being stirred by God to get involved. They may not know anything about deaf ministry yet but they are attracted by the vision and want to find out more. We’re right at the start of this exciting new work; now is the time to join in and be a part of seeing it happen.
What is the process if I want to get involved?
Register your interest on the website or e-mail info@thecitychurch.org.uk. We will then arrange for you to speak Lyn Gregory and Bridget Bree who will be able to tell you the dates of the next training sessions.
