What is the Ministry?

Crèche is set up to care for and play with the babies and toddlers aged 6 months – 3 years during the second half of Sunday morning services.

What is the vision of the ministry?

The vision is for crèche to be part of the experience of family life within the church as we offer care to the children in a safe, fun and friendly environment. This includes helping children to settle and welcoming new families. It is an opportunity to play with the children and to build relationships them and their parents as a demonstration of God's love and as an extension of church family life.

What does it look like on a week to week basis?

We offer a basic routine to the morning that is flexible depending on the age of the children. The children settle and play and there is a craft activity for the older children. Then there is a story and biscuit time which leads into singing songs with actions.

What would be involved in serving in this area?

Becoming a member of the team would involve you serving about once every 6 weeks. The week that you are on the rota you need to arrive at 10am to set up the toys in the crèche room. Crèche starts at 11am or once worship has finished. It’s also an opportunity to build relationships with the children and their parents, to help welcome and settle the children, play alongside the children, supervise and care for them. There is opportunity to plan craft activities and take a lead in reading stories to the group and leading action songs.

What sort of person are you looking for?

People who are caring, friendly, child orientated and keen to be involved and play! Some experience with children is helpful but not essential, as volunteers can have an opportunity to learn skills. Male and female, all ages from students to grandparent figures. All are welcome; variety is great.

What is the process if I want to get involved?

Register your enquiry on line or e-mail: info@thecitychurch.org.uk. There is a general application form for volunteers, a CRB check to be completed and then a meeting with Andy Chevalier and Louise Thomas. People can volunteer as a helper to come along and see for a week to see if it’s something you would like to be involved in.
