What is the Ministry?
This team will cover catering in all its forms and we would love to hear from people who are happy to prepare food, serve guests, wash up, or those with some flair for the cooking itself. We want to represent the church excellently through a high quality service and tasty food. No experience is necessary for some roles, though if you want to be let loose with the menus we may ask you to shadow a more experienced caterer first!
What is the vision of the ministry?
Our church is called to build community in the city of Canterbury. One of the best ways to do this is through events focussed on eating! Our vision is to build a strong team of servers who can turn their hand to whatever is required - be it an occasional wedding or a weekly Alpha course. We want visitors or newcomers to the church to see a smiling group of volunteers who are happy to help and who are able to offer an excellent service.
What does it look like on a week to week basis?
This depends on what you want to be involved with. If you are keen to serve regularly we could easily involve you in an Alpha course or City Foundations. If you prefer to serve in this area more periodically then we can involve you in our wedding and large events team.
What would be involved in serving in this area?
There are 6 main areas of involvement. You can sign up for one or several areas depending on your availability and your sanity!
These are:
• Food Preparation (Peeling, chopping, dicing etc)
• Service Team (Waiting/Waitressing)
• Table laying/presentation (Perhaps for the more attentive to detail)
• Skilled caterers (If you are a dab hand with a knife or have had previous experience with mass catering)
• Washing up (A VERY important role)
• Clearing Team (Another important but invaluable role)
Not all these teams will be required at every event, but for large events such as weddings we want to make sure enough is in place to avoid the burn-out of a faithful few. Catering is lots of fun and you often get to spend time with people in the church that you wouldn't normally see. It's hard work and tiring, but really rewarding when you see satisfied guests enjoying the fruits of your labour!
What sort of person are you looking for?
As you can see there's pretty much something for everyone. Sign on up!
What is the process if I want to get involved?
Register you enquiry on line or e-mail: info@thecitychurch.org.uk if you want to be involved, stating your team preferences as appropriate.
We will email a schedule of events for the coming months and then ask you to confirm commitment to each.
