What is the Ministry?
Alpha is a worldwide initiative that gives an opportunity for non-churchgoers to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting over ten thought-provoking weekly sessions, with a day or weekend away as some point during the course.
What is the vision of the ministry?
For people all over Canterbury to take this opportunity to explore the Christian faith and make an informed response to Jesus.
What does it look like on a week to week basis?
Each session begins with a meal; a chance to get to know people in the small group. There is then a short talk on DVD. This is followed by a time of discussion in the small groups, where everyone is welcome to contribute their opinion, ask questions and discuss with the rest of the group.
What would be involved in serving in this area?
Commitment to the ten weeks is essential (or at the very least absence needs to be well planned). The person serving would take an active role in the running of the evenings. The small groups are hosted by 1 or 2 leaders supported by silent helpers whose job is primarily to build relationships without dominating group discussions. Usually the course nights run on Wednesday evenings between 7 and 10pm.
What sort of person are you looking for?
If you have a heart to serve others, grow in evangelism or have been on a course before then Alpha wants you!
