Twice a year, local groups, retailers and volunteers take to the streets of Canterbury to target a specific area and transform it from grimy to glorious.
The City Church have historically targeted Canterbury High Street. Here we can be found restoring the lustre to litter bins, putting rubbish in its proper place and getting windows gleaming.
We are able to show the city that we care, and we are also able to strike up some fantastic conversations about the church and our motivation.
The Big Clean is a Canterbury Partnership Initiative, in conjunction with Canterbury City Council. It was set up in 2010 to encourage local businesses to take a more proactive role in creating a cleaner and more vibrant city.
The aim is to focus on the areas that fall outside of the council’s street cleaning service and the ownership of businesses and homeowners, and to instil some civic pride in the city.
